I went to Venice back in April this year with friends. I loved it, today I decided to take my girlfriend to share the love of the place. Regretful decision.
When I went in April it was fairly busy but the sun was shining and everything was new to me, being there for the first time. Now I love my beaut of a girlfriend but I wish we had gone to Lake Como as planned. Venice today was a nightmare.
Let’s start from the beginning. Getting there is really easy. I recommend the train due to the service and the cost. You can easily ride the train for free too if you fancy risking a big on the spot fine, but no one has ever checked my ticket.
Once there you can eat in Venice pretty cheap and as long as you have Google maps you will find your way around easily. You’ll have things you’ll want to do there. Gondola rides are pretty cool for around €60. You can walk to St Marks Square from the station in around 30 minutes. I mean you’ll be swamped with people but the place is amazing.
You’ll be able to find water taxis but they cost and really ruin the Venice experience. You’ll miss all of the tiny walkways.
My advice is go outside of peak season, sounds obvious doesn’t it but I hadn’t thought. I thought well its Venice, it’ll be busy all year round. Nope, today was busy!
In April you would of been able to see the famous pigeons you can normally find in the Square. Today just people. Walking around was just frustrating. So frustrating in fact that I only took the one picture.
If you are planning on going to the airport straight from Venice it’ll cost you €8. We all know what’s at Venice and if you haven’t gone you need to go. I do love it. It’s one of my favourite places I’ve been so far. Just go in the spring.
